Best right angle drill I’ve ever used in a 3/8 inch Chuck.

If you’re looking for the absolute best 3/8 inch corded right angle drill ever, look no further. The drill has gobs of power, that are perfectly controlled with the smoothest power transfer of any drill I’ve ever owned. Not to mention it is two inches shorter than my Bosch 12 volt battery powered right angle drill with a hand Chuck. Granted these are completely different tools for different purposes, but this right angle drill should almost be on display in your Workshop. The Chuck has amazing grip on drill bits, which I use this drill with reverse cut drill bits for extracting bolts and rethreading holes. The motor power is phenomenal. It is very well controlled does not jerk in your hand and has a throttle limiter on the trigger so you don’t use too much throttle while you are trying to maintain a good grip on the drill. As you can see from the pictures, the space in which I drill is very limited. I wish this was the first right angle drill I purchased. It is far superior than the corded DeWalt that is also on the market. I do not have pictures of the DeWalt, sorry. For my purposes, having the power and smooth motor operation of the corded drill is excellent. The battery power, even the Milwalkee 12-volt is not well suited for this type of drill and tapping work. This drill has a mostly covered Chuck, which allows you to use your opposite hand to apply pressure from the back of the drill without chewing up your hand, or getting your glove stuck in the rotating Chuck. Also, not having a hand Chuck reduces the overall length of the drill to fit into smaller spaces, and also allows a firm grip on the drill bit which will never rotate in the chuck, like drill bits have a tendency to do in hand chucks. They thought of everything when making this right angle drill.

Nice quality tool – very compact size.

Does a really good job getting into tight places. Trigger sensitivity does take some getting used to, but you also have speed control to help fine tune. No brake either, another thing to be aware of, especially when using to drive screws, but a few test screws and good to go. Plenty of power for driving screws. Have used to sister floor joists (2 2×12’s) with #10 GRK torx head screws and handles no problem. Have used with spade wood bits on double top plates for electrical wiring and works good. Low profile makes accessing the top plates at roof line much easier. Not a beast with the spade bits, but adequate power to get it done. Also tried speed bor type wood bits, and it’s ok up to about 5/8 or so. Larger diameter than that and just not enough power. Might work in open space where you can control drill a little better, but just doesn’t work with the large speed bits in tight spaces. I tried 2 holes with a 7/8 bit through double top plates and drill runs out of gas between the two plates. Not saying this as a negative, just don’t expect this little guy to perform like a hole hawg, they are two different animals. This seems to be a quality piece of equipment that will last a long time. Comes with nice side handle, chuck key, and a nice heavy, long power cord. Does not include case or bag. Would definitely buy this again.

Lowest profile right angle with a standard chuck, safety concerns with switch, no clutch.

I just received this item in the mail from Amazon (Feb 26th, 2014). The first thing I noticed was that it didn’t come in a carrying case. I was a little surprised by that on a tool this expensive and specialized, but it’s not the end of the world.

Too much research but feel it was worth it

I’ve spend way to much time reading, comparing and testing to find a worthy Right Angle Drill, and finally made up my mind on this Makita DA3010F. Money wasn’t the object but quality and longevity was.

Variable speed trigger is too sensitive

The drill seems to be very well built. It feels good in the hand, and the chuck is a quality chuck. I’ve had some drills where the chuck was pretty low quality.

Excellent variable speed reversing angle drill

This is a very high quality right-angled drill. I’ve used it already and it’s very comfortable to use while crawling around in my attic running ethernet cable. It is variable and reversing- something that the product description didn’t list. The drill bits hold very well when all 3 points in the chuck are tightened. I say this because someone else mentioned that this drill doesn’t hold them too well. Maybe that person didn’t tighten it down correctly with all 3 holes? The LED light is a nice added touch and goes on when you squeeze the handle. In my opinion this is the best right angled drill on the market. I wouldn’t buy any other brand.

Well Made Little Drill

I’m running all new wiring in a house built in the 1930’s. The studs aren’t nearly as soft as what they use nowadays but with a stubby bit it chews right through ’em. Was using a regular 3/8″ drill with a long bit, but I had to drill somewhat at an angle and couldn’t get into tight spaces, so I bought this. money well spent.

Great Buy for a Right Angle drill.

Was going to buy one locally but had no luck in finding one. Because I don’t use too often, I wanted to avoid a battery powered model. I wanted the model without the quick release chuck because it was more compact. I did have to be careful when picking up the drill because I sometimes found that I would hit the switch and turn it on. I was surprised with the torque when using a 1 paddle bit when it caught. I almost hit my hand on the floor joist.

A well-built, compact drill for tight spaces

For a small four-amp right-angle drill, this is a well-designed drill. I was amazed at how compact it was when I opened the box, even after looking at the photos.
