About Makita's 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Tool Series
As one of the pioneers driving the cordless tool revolution, Makita changed the game with its breakthrough 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Series. Three years after its debut, Makita's LXT Series has grown from seven to over 35 tools, providing a wide range of cordless solutions for professional tradesmen. Makita also added 18V Compact Lithium-Ion for cordless power in a more compact size. Makita's 18V Lithium-Ion batteries and ENERGY STAR rated Optimum Charging System provide several benefits over old battery technology. When compared to traditional 18V Ni-Cd batteries, Makita's 18V Lithium-Ion batteries have 40% less weight, longer run time, and five-times lower self-discharge to keep cells active and ready to use at any time.

Makita's 18V Lithium-Ion battery delivers 2,000 cycles–2.5X more than Ni-Cd. In addition, built-in shock absorbing features help protect the battery, and sixteen firm-holding contact terminals deliver constant high power. During the charging process, a built-in memory chip in the battery communicates with the Optimum Charger for a more efficient charge, extending the battery life. Makita's Optimum Charger is also faster: it will charge an 18V LXT Lithium-Ion battery in just 30 minutes, and an 18V Compact Lithium-Ion battery in only 15 minutes. Makita also offers a Rapid Automotive Charger for 18V LXT and 18V Compact Lithium-Ion batteries that plugs into 12V DC sockets equipped in most automobiles and trucks for added mobility. Makita's growing line of LXT cordless tool solutions features a wide range of industrial-quality power tools, including driver-drills, impact drivers, impact wrenches, saws, grinders, screwguns, rotary hammers, and more. The LXT Series also offers a jobsite radio, rechargeable flashlights, and several different combo kits.

This Tool Is Now One of My Top 10 Tools! I Love It!

I have owned two of the Makita 19v Lithium drills, both lights and (6) batteries – 3 large & ,3 small for 3 years. I have put them all through hell and back, worked them hard…but taken good care of them, as I do all my tools.. They have not let me down in anyway. Of course I have other tools and brands…there is the right tool for every job. BUT…when it comes to cordless…all others I have owned, tried or borrowed have not met my expectations as does the Makita 18v Lithium line. With that said, I just added a long awaited item, the cordless right angle. Oh, Man. When I opened it out of the box and removed it, it was like I was taking out the crown jewels. It was amazing in my hands and I haven’t even loaded a battery. Once with a battery I listed to the precision of the motor and the torque in my hand (I know why they include a side grip). I first tested it on a piece of ¼ steel with a stubby cobalt bit. Worked like a charm. I next tried a ½ bit in a pressure treated 4×4 and it did not hesitate (I did have to use the side grip for safety of my wrist. DO NOT underestimate its size to torque ratio. It certainly does not have the raw unbridled power of my Milwaukie Hole Hog, but for a cordless…it can not only drill a stubborn, tight, and hard to get at hole…it can twist your wrist if not properly prepared (take all safety precautions with any tool). IF you have the Makita line of 18 v Lithium cordless products…you won’t be sorry when adding this unit to your collection. It’s a gem and a workforce. P.S. You also love the trademark signature of the Makita LED light that brightly shines on your target and the integrated holder to secure your chuck key. Awesome piece.

One of my favorite tools. I use it to countersink holes while at the same time using my right angle drill of the same 18v battery to drive screws in.

WOW what a tool

I have a hammer drill/driver and impact driver set, a reciprocating saw, and recently purchased a circular saw and this right angle drill. While I haven’t used the circular saw enough to review it yet, this thing is amazing. The head is incredibly compact allowing it to fit in the most inaccessible places. The chuck holds well, and I did not find the trigger to be difficult to control at all. The LED on this is the best on any tool I’ve seen, it points EXACTLY where the bit is. The balance is excellent, and the side handle a big help when needed. Bear in mind that this drill doesn’t have the power of standard cordless drills, but that is more than made up for by the versatility it gives. I really like this tool, and was amazed to see it is made in Japan, unlike the rest of the LXT tools that I own which are made in China. Great buy, especially for the price I got it at! I will edit this review if any deficiencies come up, though I am doubtful any will.

THE best cordless close quarter drill out there, IMO!

Even if I didn’t have other LXT tools, I think I would buy this angle drill. For these reasons:

My 2 cents, I’m an Audio/Video Installer

I’m an Audio/Video Installer which means I install all types of flat screen TVs, speakers, home theater systems, whole house audio, in residential and commercial properties. I have many MAKITA drills about 5. All for different purposes. Before buying this close quarter drill I considered the Milwaukee right angle drill. The Milwaukee is a great tool, just too large for my purposes. I needed something small, powerful and cordless. I climb in all kind of tight spots and sometimes a dangling cord can be a hazzard when working in a customer’s home.

The cordless angle drill that belongs on the top of every review.

I was initially a bit concerned as the one serious negative review complained about abrupt starts and limited speed control. Nothing could be further from the truth. The only reasonable complaint might be the absence of a keyless chuck. Given that this is in exchange for the narrowest clearance of any angle drill on the market, it is no sacrifice. A great product, powerful, easy to manage, well made it is difficult to imagine any improvements.

For all the times I tried other brands of cordless right angle drills ( dewalt, bosch, etc) and this Makita was right in front of me all that time…I have had the Li 18volt Makita system when it first came out several years ago and could have got this Makita rt/angle drill when it was available.

Great drill– no issues with performance or battery life. Great power and easily maneuverable.

Great drill for tight spaces.

I’ve got a few other LXT tools and like them all. Overall it’s a great drill. It’s got TONS or torque, so you need to use caution with larger bits or whole saws. This drill is super compact. Once you see it you’ll realize why it’s got no key-less chuck. The whole thickness of the tool is about the size of the key-less chuck on the the LXT 1/2″ hammer drill.

Great drill, no keyless chuck though.

This is a great drill, 4.5 stars. Might be the best cordless angle drill out there. I only knock it down a peg due to the keyed chuck. Can’t really even use it like a keyless chuck like we all did before the keyless chuck came about due to its compact size. It’s compact size is one of the positives as it is one of the tightest close quarter drills out there.
