Good tool with a really dumb design flaw

 on July 14, 2017
By Louis de Geofroy
I purchased this to install aluminum gutter guard because the aluminum screws were snapping off. The clutch feature eliminated that problem. I considered the Makita because I like the brand better but it had less torque and was much more money. Once I got this on the job I discovered it’s design flaw- the chuck release pushes in towards the back of the tool and a spring ejects the driver. So whenever you push or drop the tool into a tool bag it catches the chuck and the bit pops out. That should not so bad right? fish the bit out of the bottom of the bag. But climb to the second story on your ladder, push it into the loop on your toolbelt and miss… and the bit pops out and falls 20 feet into the shrubs never to be seen again. My solution is to wrap behind the chuck with vinyl tape so it won’t spit out the bit. Which is fine till you need to change driver bits. I read the manual thinking maybe they put a lock on it but no… deWalt needs to reverse the direction that the check works in – I wonder which way the Makita chuck works?

Best driver I’ve used for electronics repair

I’ve been using this model drill at work for years and thought they were discontinued. I was pleasantly surprised to see they were still available and at a much better price than I would have expected. I got the case, driver, 2 batteries and the charger. The best part is that the charger shown in the Amazon picture is the 7.2v – 14.4v charger. The charger I received is the 7.2v – 18v which is great for me because I bought the 8 tool DeWalt 18v kit about 8 years ago and all those tools are still kicking, so now I have 2 chargers that can handle all my DeWalt batteries.

A must tool for any professional

This is my second DEWALT cordless screwdriver. The first one was still working after several years of use, but the batteries quit taking a charge. It’s cheaper to buy a new screwdriver kit (that comes with a screwdriver, two batteries, a charger, and a carrying case) than to purchase two new genuine Dewalt batteries. This tool is truly professional and indestructible. It has fallen off of a 6′ ladder many times and keeps on working. The clutch is adjustable from no torque to full torque with a twist of the collar. I use this tool more than any other cordless tool in my work truck.

Still the best battery powered cordless screwdriver on the planet

I don’t know that aliens use this screwdriver to service their spaceships, but I have my suspicions.

A solid preformer, that gets a lot of use.

Its an older item, & has been replaced with a newer Lithium battery model, but this version is a work horse, & comes with almost everything you need to start using. I wish the case would hold some bits inside, bay design, but i typically dont travel with the battery charger, so i can place some bits there. Strong performer, great for jobs that don’t need a full size driver/drill, & its smaller size makes it great for thing around the house, in & around the car, & basic fix it up. Be careful when trying to use on Ikea type furniture, its torque will strip the screw heads or damage the particle board, adjust to a lower setting, & be careful.

OMG I had no idea how much better this is than any other cordless screwdriver, other than reading reviews. Never handled one, no friends had one, took a leap of faith on Amazon reviews and bought it. It is in a league of its own. The best cordless hand tool I own. Note: I have XXXL hands and this tool feels right. It is large.

Great Cordless Screwdriver

 on June 14, 2016

I initially bought this because I needed a cordless screwdriver that was not as heavy as my full size cordless drill. The box came very quickly and was packaged very well. The drill and accessories came in a sturdy plastic box. The drill itself seems to be very well made and not just a cheap plastic drill. I will admit that I thought it was heavier than I wanted and I thought I might have to return it. After I charged the battery and installed it, the drill was not as bad as I thought. The battery counters the weight of the front of the screwdriver and you essentially balance it when using it. The power and long times between charges have made this a valuable part of my tool set for work.

A great tool. First I am disabled and my arthritic …

A great tool. I am old and not the strongest. But this little jewel works great. I use it for wood. Pay some attention to screws too. Screw technology has advanced to match these drills. I have settled on Tork/star drive type screws. Second when you order this you also get a hard plastic carrying case and two batteries and a battery charger. Pretty great, yes. Post script note – on the screws – regular steel screw. This powerful drill snaps 1/3 of the shafts of stainless in my 50 year old wood.

Great for Women Too!

I got this on a lighting deal and was worried it wouldn’t have enough power, would be too heavy, big, awkward and the list went on based on my other tries at a cordless drill.
