Made building a deck seem like fun instead of a chore!
Let me start off by saying I am not handy. I have had a standard 19.2 drill purchased from a major retailer many years ago, which is quite heavy. It doubled as a screw gun for smaller jobs. Whenever needed to hang something on the wall, I always had problems balancing myself and making sure I didn’t drop my drill. My friend had this exact DEWALT DCF815S2 impact driver, and showed it to me. Immediately upon holding it, I believed that because it was so light, there was no way it could have the power that my old drill does. Boy was I wrong! This amazingly powerful little tool has not only improved accuracy, but has made large jobs a breeze! I build a deck out back, and used this to screw the boards in with a square bit. In seconds boards were being driven into the support beams, with not one screw getting stuck! I could not believe how long the battery lasted, it was only towards the end of the job, did I need to switch to the spare battery. I recommend this to anyone that would like to make their home improvement job easier on themselves and to save them time!
The best. The impact function is nothing short of outstanding
Its what everyone else says it is! The best. The impact function is nothing short of outstanding! The torque is great. The charge lasts a long time. I also use this as a battery powered screw driver (one simply has to learn to account for the torque), it is not a long learning curve. I have had 3 different electric battery screw drivers over the years, no more……….its the impact driver from now on! A superior hand tool!
The Bottom Line
All I can say is if you want quality, reliability, sturdiness, I could keep on but I think you got my point! I’m an electrician that depends on my impact 95% of my site assignments. I have tried to go with a cheaper drill in the past & in this case you truly get what you pay for which is really not that much considering what you can get done that makes your pay check able to afford it! Bottom line industrial, commercial heck even around the house Black & Yellow is what spins in this guy’s hands! Thank you Dewalt!
Best drill/driver on the market
Best drill/driver out there hands down. All the torque and battery life you could want. Small enough to throw in my nail bag without weighing me down. I love the slip in chuck. Comfortable enough to drive screws all day. Powerful enough to drive deck screws without bogging down. The impact feature is a little noisy but this is a 1000% better than the Bosch tool I replaced.
Perfect small driver/drill
Had a Dewalt 1/4 inch drill, burned out after 10 years. At that time I didnt know Dewalt would rebuild them. Threw it away. I was using my 12V hammer drill. Just to heavy for small jobs. Added this to my Christmass list. Wife purchased it at Home Depot.
Compact, light, & Powerful.
I bought this for my arthritic dad. He needed something very light and compact to take hiking (hanging signs etc.) This has plenty of power and fits the bill. Only complaint is that DeWalt made the battery incompatible with other Dewalt systems. Dad just fixed the old picnicking tables in advance of Wednesdays party. (3 & 3.5″ screws no problem.)
Powerful impact driver
If you already have the 12v dewalt system, this is an excellent addition to your set. If you’re looking for a small impact driver, this is the one to get. The downside is that it’s a 12v system and won’t have great run time on larger projects, but I’ve had no problems with it driving multiple 4inch deck screws in pressure treated lumber. Just keep your extra batteries charged and handy.
Awesome power, great weight and balance
Dewalt makes pretty good stuff. Overall I am happy with it. I had the small bosch driver that the battery slides up into the handle. I like the bosch pretty good but it pails in comparison to the dewalt. Not just more power but better balance and leverage. I also have a Festool CSX that I like for 90% of my driving needs until I need the impact action for tough driving or removal. I use this even on bolts as small as 3mm for stuborn R/C cars that are stuck. The impact action is great for removing suborn screws. The tool doesn’t wear you out using it. Even small drills can make you tired from poor ergonomics. This comes closest to my festool. The belt clip could use some improvement. They tried but it actually kinds sucks. It’s difficult to hook on a belt or pocket when your in a tight spot or on a ladder. Needs to be longer, slightly thinner and a larger opening to get it started to hook. Think I’ll be modifying it a bit.
Best Impact Driver EVER!
I have used my friend’s Makita impact driver for the past 6 months and decided it was time to buy my own. I have always trusted DEWALT products so I chose this DEWALT impact driver…and I’m glad I did! With a $25 off Christmas promotion, this driver was the same cost as Home Depot, except you got 2 batteries and case with it! A tremendous deal!
Great addition to my toolbox
For a homeowner looking to drive screws this is all you need. The tool is well made and has a great quality feel when you use it. When driving large screws in wood the impact features really make it stand out when comparing it to a drill driver, it is also smaller (fits in small spaces) and lighter. As far as I can tell it compares well with older (larger and heavier) 18v units. The 3 LED lights are will place and provide a nice bit extra illumination.
