The DEWALT DCD791D2 20V MAX XR Li-Ion 1/2″ Compact Drill/Driver Kit (2.0Ah) features a DEWALT brushless motor which delivers up to 57% more run time over brushed. The XR Li-Ion batteries with fuel gauge provide 33% more capacity over standard packs. This unit is compact (6.9″ front to back), and lightweight (3.4 lb.), designed to fit into tight areas. A high speed transmission with 2-speed settings (0-550/0-2,000 RPM) delivers up to 30% faster application speeds, with an ergonomic comfort grip handle that provides ideal balance & tool control. The metal 1/2″ ratcheting chuck allows for superior bit gripping strength. This drill also offers a 3-Mode LED that provides lighting in dark or confined spaces (up to 20X brighter than previous model), with a LED spotlight mode that features 20 minute shutoff function allowing for extended work time in dark or confined spaces. Kit includes: DCD791 – 20V MAX XR Li-Ion BL Compact Drill / Driver, (2) DCB203 – XR 2.0AH Battery Packs, Charger, Kit Box, Belt Hook.
This is dewalt’s newest version of their compact brushless drill. I have used the dewalt 771, 780, various makitas, and some other drills. This dewalt is easily the best cordless drill I’ve used. I work in a factory and use lots of drills to drill through steel, stainless steel, and aluminum on a regular basis.
Compact, powerful, and comfortable
I bought this drill with some reservations. I have a full cabinet of 18v Dewalt tools whose batteries are slowly dying and figured I could start using these 20v batteries and the DCA1820 battery adapter that Dewalt came out with to extend the life of my old tools. So I wasn’t sure how much I would use yet another cordless drill added to the multitude I already have.
Size, metal chuck, ergonomics top notch on this drill
Size, metal chuck, build quality, hard case and multi functional LED light are reasons to buy this drill. Highly impressed, this is also very hard to find in stores Amazon even with the shipping delay is one of the spots that actually has it.
Drill bits keep falling out but problem solved & gave a five star
So far I love the DEWALT DCD791D2 20V MAX XR Li-Ion 0.5″ 2.0Ah..
Holy Smokes this is thing is powerful. I was hesitant on buying it because of the cost, but I am glad I did! I have done a lot of heavy duty home projects, including drilling through steel and torquing down lag bolts. I really like the light too, you can make it normal, dim or dear lord I am blind, which comes in handy when working in dark places. I really like how light it is and how long the battery last.
Fantastic drill and batteries
I never review a product before putting it through its paces, and this drill has definitely been through them in the 3 months that I’ve owned it. I use it to help earn my living (furniture repair) so it’s not a “weekend warrior” by any means. It is small, compact an very powerful! Absolutely reliable in every way. The batteries are especially noteworthy in that they are extremely long lasting and dependable. Since they are made in Japan and not China, they are superior in all respects. I most highly recommend this drill, I’ve used many different brands over the years and this one is far and away the very best.
This is a big step in the right direction for me. The smaller grip and good balance area great features that I would recommend this tool for. The battery pack and charger are first rate quality. The light is bright and aimed where I want it. I have just changed to the extra battery because it would have been time with my previous drill. The length of service for the first battery without losing any power is unreal. The only surprise is the smooth chuck action opening or closing. I had to tighten the chuck a little harder than I thought because the drill bit fell out when I tested the speed setting before drilling. Powerful and fast are the best words to describe my experience using it.
Probably the last drill I’ll ever need.

Power packed cordless drill
I’m not a professional mechanic, but I do have a small collection of older cars I work on, and also do various handyman jobs around the house. I’ve had a small Makita cordless drill for more than two decades. It has worked and still works well, but has nowhere near the power of modern cordless drills. It wasn’t powerful enough to remove screws from the hinges on my motor home radiator door, so I bought this Dewalt a while back and it is just amazing. Now I don’t have much experience with other brands, so I can’t really say how it compares to other modern drills, including modern Makitas, but it is hugely more powerful than my old Makita. The torque and speed are adjustable, too (unlike my old one). Good thing, because it’s powerful enough to twist screw heads right off if you aren’t careful. Has a drill setting and a screw setting. Just a really handy tool that will make your life easier and allow you to do things you couldn’t do before.
Had put off buying the DeWalt drill for a while due to it’s cost. When my Ryobi recently breathed it’s last I bit the bullet and got this DeWalt drill. Had I only known what a difference there was I would have gotten it a long time ago. It’s a beast. The light comes in really handy. It charges quickly and a charge last a long time. I recently had kitchen remodeled and the workers were impressed with my drill and wanted to use it. Awesome tool.
