I have been in the construction industry for over 30 years and have learned a thing or two about cordless drills along the way. I remember like it was yesterday when the first cordless drills came out much like the first cell phones they were bulky, expensive and the batteries weren’t worth a crap! My how the times they have a changed! I hope you enjoy my honset reviews and that they help you make an informed decision on your next cordless drill purchase. Chris Caldon

The DCD790D2 Kit includes: DCD790D2 20V MAX XR Brushless Compact Drill/Driver, 20V MAX XR Compact Li-Ion Batteries (x2), Charger, Belt Hook, On-Board Bit Holder, Kit Box. According to DeWalt, the XR Li-Ion batteries provide 33% more capacity over standard packs. DEWALT brushless technology coupled with their XR higher capacity battery packs means that their cordless tools have 57% more run-time and 33% more battery capacity then their standard 20 volt Max cordless tools. The brushed model had the 1.5 Ah battery that normally comes with it; the brushless model had the new 2.0 Ah XR pack. The brushless drill/driver can be purchased bare (DCD790B) or in a kit with 2.0 Ah batteries (DCD790D2 – $219-239). DEWALT brushless motor delivers up to 57% more run time over brushed and our XR Li-Ion batteries with fuel gauge provide 33% more capacity over standard packs. DeWalt DCD790D2 20V MAX XR Lithium Ion Brushless Compact Drill / Driver Kit Powered by a brushless motor, it delivers up to 57% more run-time over brushed, and is equipped with a high speed transmission. It is dual speed and like all the Dewalt range has plenty of power for such a lightweight drill. 20V 1/2″ COMP BRUSHLEES DL/DRV.

All in all, the DeWalt DCD790 is a cordless drill that provides a great power-to-weight ratio. If you already own an 18 volt Dewalt tool then the same battery can be used on this one. If you are in the market for a Drill/Drive this is definitely one worth looking at. The list price on this tool is close to $300 but if you shop around you can find some good deals on this tool. In our tests, I didn’t personally count, but our group drilled at least twice as many holes using the new brushless DEWALT DCD790D2. That particular Bosch compact drill is conveniently left out of Dewalt’s size comparison photo. Not only can this accessory save you money from not having to but a right angle drill but this $30.00 accessory can be kept in your drill box all the time, every time! %%DP_TITLE%%

The best of everything

 on January 13, 2015
By Eric & Meloni Jensen
The best of everything. Compared to my 18V, it’s smaller, stronger, half the weight, lasts 4X longer on a charge, and the little details are well thought through. I love the light coming up from the base — no shadows from the chuck, and the hand-chuck works perfectly. I created a doghouse “kit” for my 10yr old daughter (got a puppy for Christmas), and she had a blast using the DeWalt to assemble a home for “Gu”. She handled it effortlessly and could not get enough of driving wood screws. I was hoping she’d enjoy doing that with me, but be careful what you wish for — now she wants to use “my” drill all the time. Not a problem — I got the spare battery, so she gets tired before the drill does. Now if I could just get the dog to go into the doghouse…

Light, powerful and good battery performance.

I bought this drill because I wanted a smaller and lighter model than my previous Dewalt drill. It is smaller, but it packs plenty of power and the battery really is better than I could have hoped for. This is my first drill with a lithium battery and I do like it very much. The drill has two things I really like that I did not have before, 1) a light so I can see what I am doing and 2) a really good chuck that is operated with one hand. This drill is worth every penny I paid. I would buy it again without hesitation.

0 Ahr battery it it last a pretty good time and recharges

Having similar problem as some other reviews had had – while in the torque mode, screw bit and/or drill bit loosens up and bit/driver falls out. Used on redwood decking with deck screws and did not want to drive screw head into the redwood so set the torque to about 10. After about 10 applications with the ratcheting affect, the screw bit fell out of the chuck. If you were using it for a complete day, this would become intolerable. For simple home work, it is light weight and does the job. I have the small 2.0 Ahr battery it it last a pretty good time and recharges nicely

20v Dewalt Screw/Drillgun

i read through some reviews and found a lot of people saying things like chuck wobble and battery wobble after some to almost no use. after using this gun for about 2 weeks straight i started having similar issues but even after tests drilling holes and screwing cabinets together all day despite “wobbling” it still drills holes straight and puts screws in just fine. in addition to screwing cabinets together with it i have also used it to drill through various types of metals and it performs rather well with any task i throw at it. i find its also good for lightweight tasks such as putting computers together taking stuff around the house apart. great little gun in addition to my impact and hammerdrill. the batteries last quite awhile no matter what i do with it.

This is the best cordless drill I’ve ever owned

If I could give it 6 stars, I would. Hell, 11 stars.

The best driver-drill I ever have used.

This is truly a superb driver-drill. The batteries charge very quickly, and last just a little less than forever on a charge. The driver-drill is very light to handle and very powerful. It has an integrated LED in the base that shines onto your work, it stays on for 15 seconds after you release the trigger. Changing bits is easy with the well-designed key-less chuck. I looked at the less-expensive Dewalt options at the local big box stores and decided it was worth popping for the brushless motor model since it has a lot more torque, drives far more screws per charge and is lighter than the cheaper alternatives.

Best Drill/Driver Ever!!!

What a great purchase. This Drill/Driver is one of the best home products you can own. The battery life is out of this world, they batteries charge quickly and this drill/driver has the power to tackle any home project or even more advance building that you would need. I would take a DeWalt product over any of the other comparable brands. If you look how the DeWalt battery packs work, you will see why their batteries charge faster, hold a charge longer and deliver more power than any other brand. For the little bit of extra money, make the purchase of DeWalt you will not regret it.

Definitely the Mercedes of drills

Before this drill, I had the old 14.4v DeWalt drill. Compared to that drill, this drill is a dream come true! This drill is very lightweight, easy to handle, with great speed control. I tried using my old drill after using this one and it felt like trying to drive a screw with a cinder block. My only warning is after buying this, I really wanted the impact drill also. The impact is even lighter and it’s easy to switch bits. So make sure you really don’t want both before buying this alone.

This is a great drill and came with batteries that have no memory …

This is a great drill and came with batteries that have no memory and charge in 1/2 hour. The batteries also have virtually no discharge when left setting. This means you can let them set months, pick the drill up and have power without having to charge. I’m using one of the batteries on a Dewalt flashlight and this feature will be great for that. No more picking up a flashlight with dead or weak batteries.
