DEWALT-designed electronics have been built into the DCD780C2’s switch to provide maximum life for the tool and battery by helping to protect them from overheating, overloading, and deep discharge during use. The 20-volt’s lithium-ion batteries provide up to 35 percent more runtime than existing 18-volt lithium-ion battery technology. The included charger has dual voltage capabilities, and it is compatible with both 12-volt max and 20-volt max DEWALT lithium-ion batteries; the DCD780C2 is also compatible with the 3.0 Ah lithium-ion batteries that are available as replacement packs or come with the premium tools. Plus, the drill’s high-power, high-efficiency motor delivers 350 unit watts out of maximum power for superior performance in light and medium drilling applications. A 1/2-inch ratcheting chuck with carbide inserts provides superior bit-gripping strength—reducing slippage during high-torque applications—thus providing longer tool life. The drill/driver’s two-speed (0-600 RPM and 0-2,000 RPM) transmission allows users to select the appropriate speed for the job at hand and is up to 30 percent faster than current drill/drivers on the market.
Comfort and Convenience
The compact drill’s design incorporates a slim handle with contoured grip that extends user comfort during long jobs, and DEWALT’s engineering and design team adjusted the product footprint and weight allocation for ideal balance and a lightweight feel, making the 3.4-pound tool easy to maneuver in tight areas. Its 7.5-inch length is half an inch shorter than other currently available drill/drivers. The bright built-in LED work light above the trigger has a 20-second delay that improves visibility in dimly lit spaces.

Great drill–powerful, light, well balanced, and the best part is that it is easy to swap out batteries.

I bought this to replace my old 14v Makita cordless drill, as the batteries of this old drill are beginning to lose charge. I am so amazed at this drill. It is a 20 V drill, so more power-no surprise. But the thing I really love is that the batteries are much smaller and lighter than the ones I am used to with the old Makita (I am not knocking the Makita–it is over 10 years old, and still runs like a champ).
The best portable drill I own

I purchased this to replace an older Dewalt portable drill, which is a favorite of mine. Batteries are now expensive and a problem for it, so I decided rather than investing in new batteries, I’d invest in an all-new drill, especially as li-ion and the brushless motors were highly regarded by reviews pretty much everywhere.
It is very versatile and easy to use

I had a chance to use this drill for some time now. I am not a contractor but am an above-average user of residential tools. It is very versatile and easy to use. I have not experienced some of the defects other reviewers have noted. The battery last long enough and because there are two of them you can keep one in the charger while you are working. It was not obvious that the battery has to be pressed hard into the charger until it snaps in. Others have noted that there are no holding areas for bits on the drill. This is not an impact drill. It does regular drilling at high speed and screw driving at low speed/higher torque. It has a brush type motor.
This has to be the best drill I’ve ever used
This has to be the best drill I’ve ever used. It’s worth every penny. The speed control via the trigger is fluid and just the right sensitivity, and this thing has power when you need it, but it will drive at a very low speed while maintaining a high force, so whether you’re putting a screw through hard or soft wood or a knot, the same trigger position will move it at the same rate. The LED light is not so much useful when actually driving as it is to have a tool with a light available nearby when working after dark. I’ll pick the drill up, touch the trigger, the light comes on and stays on a bit, check the work out, then use a different tool, so even though the light doesn’t shine directly on the targeted screw or drill location, it’s quite useful. The batteries last forever, used one for 8 hours one day before it ran low. They charge fast too.
Five Stars – Changed to 4 stars after drill failure after 8 months of normal use

Best drill Ive ever owned. Great drill.
drill is great, case is ok
I was thrilled to see the battery which came installed in the drill was well charged upon arrival. I was actually surprised how much power the drill had when I gave the trigger a test squeeze out of the box. I had some work to do that night, so I wanted to ensure the batteries were fully charged first. Both gave the full charge signal about 30 minutes after sitting on the charger. I also like that I can always keep one charged in case the other runs out while I’m working. I got to work right away finishing the job of seating my window blind anchors, the task my 12v battery operated Black and Decker failed on. I’d purchased DeWalt drill and driver bits, too, and was very pleased with the performance of the magnetic hex driver, holding the long screw in place while I held the anchor to the wall, and the drill completed the task of hanging the last 3 blinds very easily and quickly. I’m looking for more reasons to use it this weekend.
Not sure how this drill would do working it every day like this as a contractor but it got my job …
2 years ago I put in 230 feet of PVC privacy fence. 100 feet of the fence on the west sidea of my property blew down twice breaking the posts off. I needed to replace it with something stout. I replaced it with 5×6 treated post and 2×6 horizontal runners and cedar dog ear boards. I bought this drill to do the job. I had over 1300 screws to put in, 3 inch on my horizontal boards and 1 3/4 on my ceder boards. I could put in about 120 screws in on a charge and by the time my battery was low my second battery was charged. It never missed a beat. Not sure how this drill would do working it every day like this as a contractor but it got my job done and I’m very impressed.
High quality drill
I’m a home/residential user and I bought this drill for around the house use. I could not be more impressed. My last drill purchase was my dad’s corded Craftsman drill bought in the 1980s. It’s amazing how light this drill is, even with the 20 volt battery. There is nothing special to this drill – it charges fast, has enough torque for around the house jobs, and the batteries hold their charge (I used a battery that had been sitting in the basement for 1 year and it still had plenty of charge to hang some blinds). I can’t comment on it’s long term charge holding ability (such as a full work day of using it to build a shed or deck) but my limited experience with this drill does show it would be capable in that setting as well.
I have not been a fan of battery tools. The batteries, historically, didn’t have the power or long discharge time. This product did not disappoint. We used for attaching sheathing on roofs (1//3/4″ screws) and sheathing for floors (3″). Had plenty of power and by the time the battery discharged, the second one was charged. Great for roofing jobs (metal roofs), No cord to trip over or get in the way.
