20 volt max is the way to go

I am doing a major addition plus some refurbishing of my house. Since I am doing most of the work myself, my reward is to buy the tools I want to use for the job. My first purchase last August was the new 20v max impact wrench and hammer drill kit to replace my dying 18 volt drills. I am now utterly sold on the 20v max tools. They are typically lighter, more compact, and a bit more powerful than the older 18v tools.

Low torque

Drill was very nice to hold and operates very well. It seemed very well made and sturdy. It let me drill some holes in studs for electrical wiring that I could not have drilled with a standard drill due to the angle head However it was disappointing in the torque that it delivered. It had trouble driving screws into wood where my regular battery drill (Hitachi 18 Volt) had no problems. This drill would simply stop turning due to lack of torque. It would not drill through more than one stud without removing the wood chips, where my Hitachi had no problem. I’ll keep this drill for the special uses, but not try to use it for anything else.

Good Drill

Being a Dewalt die-hard, I had to have this DCD740 as soon as it got released.

Fantastic!

I will preface this review with that I haven’t had a functioning cordless drill for 7-8 years. After having trouble with batteries failing, I went back to standard corded drills and hadn’t looked back.

Sometimes you just have to have the right tool.

Sometimes you just don’t have a choice on alternative tools, and right angle drills are that way – if you need it, you need it and nothing else will work to drill that hole in a tight spot.

Ever since I seen this drill in action on You-Tube, I wanted one. I’ve had so many tight spots where this drill has saved the day, that it has paid for its self already.. I learned quick that this drill has some good power and it can rap your knuckles if you aren’t careful. Another win for Dewalt!

I like this drill for what it is

I like this drill for what it is, but would add to what others have said only in this respect: under heavy continuous load or use, a fully charged battery will only last 15 minutes or so before it wilts.

I Love you DeWalt!!

I think the review title will give away my review… I love this thing!! Torque is excellent, and the 20v battery lasts and lasts! The head is small enough to get into the inside of electrical panels and other tight spaces. Can’t go wrong with this right angle!

Powerfull for a battery drill.

Right angle design has many uses but not for everything. Excellent special purpose and second drill, not your primary drill. Battery life in use unknown.

Comfortable grip, good lighting, decent torque

I don’t have any prior experience with a right angle drill and 20v drills in general. I found the torque to be very good, and much better than what I was used to with my current dewalt drill. The compact head allows access to some tight spots with sufficient torque to drill some decent 1 inch wood holes.
