An excellent product with a bad chuck
When my trusty OLD 9.6v NiCd Makita drill finally gave up, I started looking around at new drills. When comparing all of the different drills available, I found that this particular B&D easily outclasses all of the competition in this price category! Do yourself a favor, buy a Lithium battery powered drill. Don’t cheap-out and buy one of the lower priced NiCd battery powered models (NiCds will soon be obsolete), or the similar Lithium battery powered single speed model (120), or this same model with the slow charger (without FC). You will be MUCH happier (and better off) if you spend the extra money for this two-speed LDX220SBFC with the fast charger.
Best Drill For the Money
I’m a cranky and particular old man and I look at stuff for hours before I buy.
Fits my needs for hanging curtains, pictures, and putting together furniture
Excellent drill. Battery came nearly charged. You can leave the battery on the charger for storage with no fear of overheating or ruining the battery, assuring that you always have a fully charged battery ready to go.
Black & Decker LDX220SBFC
Very nice drill outfit for the weekend hobbyist. Since I discovered battery powered drills a few years ago, I haven’t been without one. I bought this one mostly for the battery and fast charger that match a B&D edger/trimmer. It was cheaper to buy this outfit than buy the battery and fast charger together. But knowing how Lithium batteries work from other hobbies, this drill should stay charged and ready for use, where the nicad batteries can lose power over time if not charged. The drill is lighter and smaller than my other drills and should work fine for my use. I would not recommend this for heavy professional use.
I said no thanks – I like functionality over name
I have in my life time, two dewalts and ryobi cordless drills. I’ve never used a smoother operating and stronger motors than the dewalt, hands down. The gears in those motors are solid and when you squeeze the trigger and feel it run – you know its quality. To make the story short, those batteries failed and buying new ones is just as costly as buying a whole new drill – forget it.
good value so far
I’ve had this a year, and haven’t had to charge it since the first time. I use it a couple times a month, for typical light-duty homeowner type jobs (not major construction projects), and it seems to hold a charge a long time. Its got a lot more torque than my old 12 V B&D which finally crapped out after 12 yrs or so. The two gear settings that let you choose between torque and speed are nice. If I had it to do over again, I’d have bought the one that lets you fit other tools to the motor/frame. My old one had a quick release chuck, wish this one did. I could have one chuck pre-loaded with a drill bit, the other with a driver bit, and just switch them back and forth as needed. This one you have to manually install a new tool each time.
GOOD HOME UNIT, ALREADY USED IT A LOT >> Not commercial but still a great product

The Drill works fine, the "chuck" is junk
The Drill works fine, the “chuck” is junk, it striped out after a few months. I’m told the metal used to construct the “chuck” is a softer metal then could have been used. I suppose the harder metal would have increased the over all price? The power was pretty good for a small drill, it wasn’t real heavy, and it charged up pretty fast, but if it can’t hold a drill bit, its junk (now I could buy another “chuck”, but I’m not going to waste any more money on it).
So it was an easy decision to buy a new drill
The NiCad batteries for my old drill stopped holding a charge and it cost nearly as much to buy a new drill than to replace the batteries for the old one. So it was an easy decision to buy a new drill. This one is a lot lighter and the batteries allow the drill to operate for a good amount of time. I also have the hedge trimmer, and with two batteries, I can trim all six of our bushes.
