Guys (Yes, And Girls Too), More Than Adequate Drill; Power And Battery Test (Non-Scientific) Long Review
Don’t know why I’m reviewing this drill. I guess it’s because after reading all the other reviews prior to buying, I’m somewhat conflicted since mostly, people either seem to love or hate this drill and I’d like to get my two cents worth in. After reading about a bazillion reviews (small exaggeration) I didn’t know what to think and, I thought perhaps I could help my fellow Amazonians (is that a word?) make a buying decision based upon my own, hopefully informed opinion. While I am not an expert, I do build and sell hardwood furniture and am familiar with most of the tools that you would find in a working woodshop.
Built a greenhouse & fixed/built many things with this set
Made awesome tool drawer kit!
So far so good. I got this replaced because my original one had a loose part inside so Amazon was kind enough to replace the whole thing. I want to share how I used the original box to make a cool handy and easy to make tool drawer. My drawer was a little too small so I trimmed off one edge and relocated the tools to the side. I added 3m tape on each side to hold it in place and a towel underneath to provide more support. Love it and puts a smile on my face everytime I open the kitchen drawer haha
You Get What You Pay For
You get what you pay for here. I just got this to replace my 10 year old Black & Decker (B&D) 12V Firestorm which still works great but I’m tired of always charging the dying old NiCad batteries that don’t last very long. I was way overdue for a Lithium Ion driver and I finally settled on this. At this price point nothing touches it but I really wish I could leave it half a star less and I’ll get into that in a bit. This is all the drill you should should ever need around your home and I’m fine with that. It has all the features of the more expensive brands I was looking at in the $100 price range such as the entry level Makita and Bosch cordless drills but at half the price. What’s the difference? You won’t see B&D products on a jobsite laboring day in and day out.
Great little drill, powerful, lasts a long time, able to drive large SureLOK bolts
Very powerful little drill. Have used this to build a large deck. I’ve driven over 2000 screws with it. Surprisingly it drove SureLOK 6″ bolts with no problem, even though my old corded drill didn’t have enough torque. It lasts over a half hour of continuous use on a single battery. It does get a little hot when using it that long. I thought for sure I would’ve burned it up by now, but it’s still working great. The only thing I would question is the torque adjustment. I’ve only used the drill setting and 10, the highest. Anything less seems to spin before the screw is flush, but perhaps that’s because I’m driving 2-1/2″ and 4″ screws, and the lower settings may be appropriate for smaller screws. Very happy with this drill.
I kept it in my “save for later” list for a month or so and finally pulled the trigger when it went down to 99 bucks. I’ve built a solid workbench with all the tools with the help of a miter saw (bought separate, not included in the set) and performed various jobs around the house including: cut metal gutter with reciprocating saw, install floating shelves and various other items. All in all, if you’re just building small stuff and fixing stuff around the house, this is really all you need. Oh the battery lasts forever as well.
Highly Recommend After Several Months Of Use
Had it for about 2 months now and have used it extensively. Haven’t identified any real weaknesses or drawbacks to it yet. Battery life is good to excellent. It’s light and torquey. Bit install is quick easy and right. It’s quite a bit smaller than my previous black and decker drill. Two of the best things about this drill is the LED light that illuminates the area to be drilled and it stands up on its own when placed on its battery base on a table or floor. Highly recommended unit.
Buyer beware bag not made for all tools. Bad finish on hole saws
From the pictures you would think the bag featured would be set up for all the tools shown, it is not. It is made to hold the drill. You could throw everything into the bag but there are no compartments so everything will just be loose and the bits will probably poke through the bag. As far as quality it is Black and Decker so it does what is suppose to. However the hole saws look like they were scrapped up a bit before they were put it the box. The teeth look fine but the finish on them is scrached up
Small but strong.
Great kit. I am a woman, so I appreciate the smaller size of the drill and how lightweight it is. I have small hands, so the drill fits perfectly. And dont let its size fool you. I was able to drill in concrete walls with no problem (NOTE: the bits included are only for wood, you need to buy separately concrete drill bits). The battery lasts a long time. I did not charge it when I first received it until about 3 weeks after and it still had charge in it. Has all the tools one may need. I did buy a tool box and transferred all the tools to it, just to have everything more organized and easily visible and to temper my OCD. Great package deal. Very happy with it.
